Please join us at St. Timothy's (8420 - 145 Street NW) on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at 2:00 pm for an afternoon of music (from classical to folk to contemporary) featuring vocalists Leigh Walbaum and Emily Ropchan, and pianist Jung-Suk Ryu. Concert admission is by donation with all proceeds going to support the choral scholar program.

Leigh Walbaum has been a choral scholar and member of the choir for 3 years. She completed her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Alberta in 2014 under the direction of Canadian mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Turnbull and internationally renowned collaborative pianist and vocal coach Shannon Hiebert. Leigh has also traveled around the globe to study music and participate in various productions. Most recently she had the opportunity to travel to Austria in the summer of 2014 to study at the Franz Schubert Institute.

Emily Ropchan has been a choral scholar and member of the choir for 2 years. Beginning at an early age Emily demonstrated a love of music and has been studying music in many forms since then. In addition to voice, Emily studies piano and has played the trumpet in the school band.

Jung-Suk Ryu is the accompanist at St. Timothy’s Anglican Church. He completed the practical requirements for the Associateship Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music at the age of 13, and received the full diploma in 2001. He was the principal conductor of the Ottawa Symphonic Ensemble from 2008 to 2011, a 60-member professional-amateur classical orchestra, and has been a guest conductor for choral groups such as Coro Vivo Ottawa and the Cantata Singers of Ottawa. In his “spare time,” he is the Director, Public Affairs, for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB), lobbying government on matters impacting Canadians who live with blindness or partial sight.

Choral Scholar Program: The choral scholar program enhances the choir with strong voices and provides an opportunity for voice students to use their gift and enhance their vocal leadership.  In appreciation for their contributions, choral scholars are provided with an honorarium. If you are a voice student and are interested in becoming a choral scholar, please forward your resume to music@sttimothy-edm.ca.
